Rory Coughlin
My name is Rory Coughlin, I am the co-founder of Sons of the Sun Inc., I grew up in a rural farming community, where early life was marked by a deep connection to nature and an appreciation for the importance of food access. My youthful years were shaped by extensive involvement in the Boy Scouts, and other community organizations, which instilled a strong sense of community and a passion for creating positive change.
My Story
My journey has included significant challenges, near death, extreme losses, and personal health issues, including a run-in with law enforcement that tested my resilience. Rather than deterring me, this experience strengthened my resolve to contribute meaningfully to the community. This process has since allowed me to channel efforts into addressing food insecurity and improving access to fresh food, particularly in underserved areas.
Commitment to these causes led to the feeding and selling of produce directly within my community, gaining insight into the barriers faced by those in food deserts. I am now focused on leveraging my non-profit experience and innovative approaches to establish a new organization dedicated to improving food access. The vision for the future includes utilizing technology and community partnerships to address food deserts, empower local farmers, and ensure that fresh, nutritious food reaches those who need it most.
This work exemplifies how perseverance and dedication can lead to impactful solutions for food insecurity, demonstrating the importance of community, respect, and innovation in creating a more equitable food system.
